Studio Policies
CLASS OBSERVATION
In order to keep distractions to a minimum, only students are allowed in the classroom. There is a one-way observation window and/or a closed circuit television monitor located in the lobby. You are welcome to discreetly observe as long as it does not distract your child or other class members. Instructors randomly invite parents in toward the end of class to show what they have been teaching. It is also a time to catch parent’s up on class progression.
STUDIO RULES
-
Parents are responsible for the behavior and safety of their children. Children are not permitted to play in the lobbies at any time. The lobby is for sitting, observing and visiting only. Toys must be played with in the designated playroom area. The play area is designated for young children only. The studio is not a playground. Toys and other materials are not to be spread over lobby floors. Siblings and friends brought into the studio are to be monitored at all times. Horseplay inside/outside the building will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to ask anyone who is disruptive to leave.
-
Please keep conversation in the lobby positive and up-beat. Negativity is not appreciated, nor tolerated.
-
Drinks are only allowed in the lobbies. Do not bring food into the studio rooms.
-
Please pick up your trash.
-
A vacant studio is not to be played or loitered in.
-
The studio office is a private area - students/families must enter only with a staff member.
-
Please be on time for class. If a student is more than 5 minutes late, the instructor may not allow him/her to take class. It is very disruptive when students come in late.
-
It is a common courtesy to call when you will not be in class.
-
Be prompt in picking up your child. We will not be responsible for your child before and after class. Students may not be dropped off more than 10 minutes prior to their class time. If we notice your child being dropped off any earlier, we will be calling you to come and sit with your child.
-
The studio doors will be unlocked 15 minutes prior to the first class of the day.
-
Disrespect from students and parents toward any staff member will not be tolerated.
-
Please do not park in the handicapped spaces unless you have a tag in your window. These spaces are to be used by handicapped persons only. Also, please do not park in front of the gates (Fayetteville). If your vehicle is towed for any reason, we will not be held liable for towing fees.
STUDIO CLOSINGS and MAKE-UP LESSONS
The studio closes on major holidays(Labor Day, Thanksgiving week, Christmas break, New Year’s Eve/Day, Martin Luther King Day and Labor Day) and for inclement weather. If you are unsure about class cancellations, please call the studio. In extreme cases the studio may close during evening classes. Classes will not be made up for inclement weather unless the same class has missed two or more weeks due to inclement weather. Each student deserves 100% attention for the class he/she is enrolled in. Therefore, we CAN NOT make-up lessons that are missed. It is unfair for students in the class to be consistently interrupted by others coming in to make-up a lesson. We value your time and insist our students time with instuctors is valued as well.
MUSIC IN THE STUDIO
Music in class, during practice, for shows, etc. is monitored. Proper music will be chosen for each class. Students are exposed to a wide variety of music from Christian to pop. We do not allow harsh words, topics, etc. We provide age appropriate music in all classes. Instructors will choose tasteful music for their classes.
ANNUAL STUDIO PRODUCTION “recital”
We prefer to use the word “production” when referring to our year end program. Our staff works very hard to ensure the show is top notch! We hire auditorium as well as back stage staff. Special lighting and stage effects are an exciting addition to our shows. Parents, family and friends always have a hassle free experience! We generally schedule this performances mid-June.The date changes from year to year according to auditorium availability. Please consider this when making vacation plans. We have 2 to 3 shows scheduled for the 2008 dance year. Each family will select the performance DVD of the show they would like. A few months before the production, students may sell ads to place in the program book. It is a very nice-professionally designed program. Details regarding ad sales will be available later in the year.
There is a $145 NON REFUNDABLE Production Fee charged per family (Due Nov. 15th 2007)
Each fall we have a cookie dough fundraiser. Although optional, many families prefer to participate and generally make enough from the fundraiser to offset the production fee. Any additional money made will be credited toward tuition.
This fee includes your child’s *COSTUME*, UNLIMITED TICKETS to the annual production, a souvenir DVD and PROGRAM BOOK. Each student per famliy will receive a souvenir DVD and program book. This added bonus will benefit families with multiple children.
COSTUMES – Remember we will alter costumes for you! This saves parents the hassle and additional expense. Each student requiring tights will receive one FREE pair. *Students will have one costume per class that he/she is enrolled in. The exception is Rising Stars year 2, who generally have 2 costumes. If your child is in multiple classes, you will be charged $55 per additonal costume. The first costume, per family, is inculded with the production fee, additional costume fees will be due Jan 15th, 2008.*

Instructors:
Each gained their own sense of style and choreography experience while training during their young adolescence up through their college years. They have trained from young ages all over the United States in tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, acrobatics and clogging and have competed and trained with many professional dancers across the country. All instructors believe that determination, dedication, and development of dancers are the key to success at Academy of Dance and Music. Instructors remain up to date with correct technique and terminology as well as new teaching methods by attending dance conferences yearly. Academy of Dance believes in forming a well-rounded dancer that is educated as well as able to perform any style of dance. Although each teacher has a specific area in which they concentrate, they are all well-rounded instructors with the ability to teach any style of dance. Learning from every instructor can be expected over extended educational training.
Those instructors who are certified through Dance Masters of America, Inc. or have a dance degree are responsible for designing classroom syllabus for all instructors and overseeing each dance program in their specified area of expertise.
